Project: #324 Accessibility with Get Going Progress Report - Reporting Period Ending: March 31, 2021 Principal Investigator: Maxine Eskenazi Status: Active Start Date: July 1, 2020 End Date: June 30, 2021 Research Type: Applied Grant Type: Research Grant Program: FAST Act - Mobility National (2016 - 2022) Grant Cycle: 2020 Mobility21 UTC Progress Report (Last Updated: April 1, 2021, 4:36 a.m.) % Project Completed to Date: 45 % Grant Award Expended: 45 % Match Expended & Document: 45 USDOT Requirements Accomplishments The goals were to work with PathVu to create a system that offers verbal (via telephone) information on access to the 30 UPMC hospitals. The pandemic situation has dramatically changed what we were able to accomplish. With less people (let alone wheelchair users, many of whom are high risk individuals) using public transport and going outside in general, it was impossible to gather the data needed to create the system. Yet, people still need to access the hospitals for doctors visits and outpatient treatments. Thus we changed our focus to helping everyone, not just people with limited mobility, to get where they need to go in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. The idea is to use Google directions to get an individual from their home to either a bus stop or a parking garage and then fill in where Google leaves off by giving them directions about where to enter buildings on the UPMC Presbyterian campus and where to go once inside. We have accomplished the following during this reporting period: ? Connected with UPMC Disabilities Resource Center, discussed the plan to extend GetGoing’s indoor map coverage to UPMC Shadyside and UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital. ? Created a new standalone GetGoing system variant GetGoingM for accurate navigation around and within UPMC facilities (specifically Presbyterian Hospital for now, but easily extended to other hospitals in the future) ? Created a new database in the GetGoingM system for expert route lookup ? Collected navigation instructions to/from various doctors' suites, outpatient clinics and facilities on the UPMC Presbyterian campus that are on the UPMC publicly available website ? Collected maps from around the UPMC Presbyterian campus, covering the Oakland area, the campus around the buildings (including steep hills), and walkways/bridges connecting buildings ? Started encoding graphical maps into text representations for more efficient computation ? Collected and processed practitioner/office name and location information within the UPMC network By June 30, 2021 we hope to have most of the GetGoingM system put together so that it can be deployed in July 2021. Impacts Nothing to report this quarter Other nothing to report Outcomes New Partners nothing to report Issues Please see above - the pandemic has caused us to make a major change in our goas and to concentrate on Presbyterian Hospital access for all - outside and inside the buildings.
