We investigated several microprocessors and cameras for improving the head-up display (HUD). 2. We also prototyped an optical system with a small beam splitter. 3. Despite of the pandemic, our team continued to work on research projects. We prototyped head-mounted remote fever detection system for potential health screening in public transportation space. https://engineering.cmu.edu/news-events/news/2020/05/18-fever-detection.html 4. We prototyped a real-time edge detection software from thermography that potentially can be used for navigation at dark for low vision users. 5. We won NIST Haptic Interfaces for Public Safety Challenge at the First Place and The Most Commercially Promising Award in 2019. Our prototype was exhibited by NIST PSCR-PSIAP at CES, Las Vegas in January, 2020. https://www.nist.gov/ctl/pscr/open-innovation-prize-challenges/past-prize-challenges/2019-haptic-interfaces-public-safety 6. Our team also won NIST AR Interface for Public Safety Challenge Phase I through III and entered the final Phase IV. https://www.nist.gov/ctl/pscr/open-innovation-prize-challenges/current-and-upcoming-prize-challenges/2020-chariot Impacts We have reach out local public safety organizations such as Allegheny County Fire and Police Academy, Pittsburgh International Airport, Allegheny Health Network, City Bureau of Fire, and UPMC EMS. We have showed AR interface demos to the communities and received positive feedback about the potential applications in training, smart cities, and first responder scenarios. We have developed a team of CMU students and research staffs in the cutting edge AR technology. We anticipate to license and commercialize the new AR technologies through patenting, licensing and spinoffs.
